06. Technical Description

View Detailed Technical Description

What Is CuZn37Mn3Al2PbSi-C?

KUZRAL® 3 is a high-strength special brass / manganese bronze product based on the CuZn37Mn3Al2PbSi chemistry. The international EN wrought-alloy designation is CuZn37Mn3Al2PbSi / CW713R. The -C suffix used in the page title is Çorum Bronz’s commercial designation for its special cast and machined supply form.

Chemical Composition

CW713R contains 57.0-59.0% Cu, 1.5-3.0% Mn, 1.3-2.3% Al, 0.3-1.3% Si and 0.2-0.8% Pb, with Zn as the remainder. Fe and Ni are limited to 1.0%, Sn to 0.4% and total other elements to 0.3%. Composition is confirmed against the purchase specification and material certificate.

Mechanical Properties

Mechanical properties depend on product form, section and the specified R or H condition. Typical EN 12164 rod conditions include R540 with a minimum tensile strength of 540 MPa and elongation of 15%, and R590 with 590 MPa and 10%. Rp0.2 reference values are approximately 280 MPa for R540 and 320-370 MPa for R590 depending on product form. H130 and H150 represent typical hardness ranges of 130-170 HB and 150-220 HB.

Typical Physical Properties

Typical references include a density of 8.12 g/cm³, thermal conductivity of about 63 W/(m·K), specific heat of about 0.377 J/(g·K), thermal expansion of about 19.5-20.3 × 10⁻⁶/K and electrical conductivity of about 7.8-8.0 MS/m. These values depend on material condition.

Material Behaviour

Manganese, aluminium and silicon support strength and wear resistance. Hard intermetallic phases in the structure contribute to sliding and friction performance. The alloy has very good hot-forming capability, limited cold formability and moderate machinability.

Corrosion Behaviour

CuZn37Mn3Al2PbSi performs well in atmospheric exposure, neutral and alkaline media, fresh water, suitable seawater conditions and oils. Chloride level, water hardness, ammonia, amines, stress condition and operating temperature should be included in the project assessment.

Applications

Typical applications include bronze bushings, plain bearings and sliding elements, valve guides, synchroniser rings, transmission parts, piston rings, gears, motion-transfer components, hot-pressed parts, pins and general machine-construction components.

Production Technology and Supply Forms

CW713R is supplied as solid round and hexagonal rods, flats, rectangular bars, profiles, hollow rods, seamless tubes, forging stock and forgings. Project-specific KUZRAL® 3 supply may include special castings, machined large sections, bushing blanks and drawing-based components.

Production, Sales and Supply by Çorum Bronz

Çorum Bronz manufactures and supplies KUZRAL® 3 products with project-specific dimensions, tolerances, product forms and quality documentation. Chemical analysis, mechanical condition, manufacturing route and final service conditions are evaluated together during material selection.

Standards and Comparable Grades

The main EN designation is CuZn37Mn3Al2PbSi / CW713R, with CuZn40Al2 / 2.0550 as the former DIN designation. Depending on product form, EN 12164, EN 12165, EN 12167, EN 12168, EN 12449 and EN 12420 apply. UNS C67400, C67420 and former BS CZ135 are close comparisons; chemistry, mechanical condition and product form require joint verification for substitution.

Engineering Note

Final material selection should consider load, speed, lubrication, mating-surface hardness, temperature, corrosion environment, section and manufacturing route. Acceptance values for cast KUZRAL® 3 products are defined by the purchase specification, specimen plan and material certificate.
