What Is CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1?
CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1 is a high-toughness copper-zinc manganese bronze / special brass alloyed with manganese, aluminium and iron. Under EN 1982 the ingot is CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1-B / CB765S and the casting grade is CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1-C / CC765S. Çorum Bronz produces and supplies it under the trade name KUZRAL® 2.
Ingot and Casting Distinction
CB765S is an ingot grade intended for remelting in casting production. CC765S identifies finished or semi-finished cast products. Mechanical properties apply to CC765S castings; CB765S and CC765S composition limits should not be combined into one table.
Chemical Composition
For CC765S castings, Cu including Ni is 57.0-65.0%, Al 0.50-2.50%, Fe 0.50-2.00% and Mn 0.50-3.00%, with Zn as the remainder. Ni is limited to 6.0%, Sn to 1.00%, Pb to 0.50%, Si to 0.10%, Sb to 0.08% and P to 0.03%. In CB765S ingots, Cu including Ni is 56.0-64.0%, Al 0.70-2.20%, Fe 0.50-1.80% and Mn 0.50-2.50%.
Mechanical Properties
EN 1982 minimums are: sand casting (GS) Rm 450 MPa, Rp0.2 170 MPa, A 20% and 110 HBW; permanent mould casting (GM) 475 MPa, 200 MPa, 18% and 110 HBW; centrifugal (GZ) and continuous casting (GC) 500 MPa, 200 MPa, 18% and 120 HBW. Final results can vary with product section, specimen location and casting structure.
Typical Physical Properties
Typical manufacturer references include a density of approximately 8.2 g/cm³, melting range of 880-900°C, specific heat of 0.419 J/(g·K), thermal conductivity of 55 W/(m·K), thermal expansion of 19 × 10⁻⁶/K, electrical conductivity of 5-10 MS/m and Young's modulus of 98 GPa. These are not guaranteed EN 1982 values.
Çorum Bronz Technical Assessment
KUZRAL® 2 combines moderate strength, high toughness and elongation, suitable wear behaviour and corrosion resistance in seawater conditions. It is suited to components under high static loads or with limited movement under load. Plain-bearing systems require appropriate lubrication, and emergency-running performance should be assessed separately.
Its machinability index is approximately 40 compared with a reference value of 100 for CuZn39Pb3. Standard machining operations are possible when cutting tools, parameters and workholding are selected for the alloy.
Applications
Typical applications include heavy-duty bronze bushings, low-speed plain bearings, pressure nuts for rolling mills and screw presses, wear and sliding plates, crane-rail wheel bushings, pump and valve components, ship superstructures, propeller components, mechanical connections and general engineering castings.
Production Technology and Supply Forms
KUZRAL® 2 may be produced by sand, permanent mould, centrifugal and continuous casting. Supply forms include bronze tubes / hollow bars, round bars, flats, plates, bushing blanks and drawing-based special castings.
Production, Sales and Supply by Çorum Bronz
Çorum Bronz manufactures standard and project-specific products in CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1-C / CC765S. Available sizes, cut-to-length pieces, hollow products, round bars, flats and plates can be supplied through the Metal Market; special production considers drawings, tolerances, casting process and quality documentation.
Standards and Comparable Grades
The main European casting designation is CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1-C / CC765S, with CuZn35Mn2Al1Fe1-B / CB765S as the related ingot. Former DIN designations include G-CuZn35Al1 / 2.0592.01, GK-CuZn35Al1 / 2.0592.02, GZ-CuZn35Al1 / 2.0592.03 and GB-CuZn35Al1 / 2.0602 for ingots. UNS C86500 / SAE 43 and BS 1400 HTB1 are close comparisons, not exact equivalents.
Engineering Note
Material selection should consider static and dynamic loads, speed, lubrication, mating-surface hardness, temperature, seawater or chemical exposure, section and manufacturing process. Corrosion suitability in ammonia-containing environments requires separate evaluation. Final properties should be confirmed by the purchase specification, analysis certificate, mechanical tests and dimensional inspection.
