What Is CuAl10Ni?
CuAl10Ni is a high-strength copper-aluminium-nickel-iron casting bronze from the former DIN 1714 system. Its designations are G-CuAl10Ni / 2.0975.01 for sand casting, GK-CuAl10Ni / 2.0975.02 for permanent mould casting, GZ-CuAl10Ni / 2.0975.03 for centrifugal casting and GC-CuAl10Ni / 2.0975.04 for continuous casting. Çorum Bronz produces and supplies the alloy within the KUPRAL® product family.
The aluminium, nickel and iron additions create a combination of high tensile strength, surface-pressure capacity, wear performance and resistance to seawater corrosion. These properties make CuAl10Ni suitable for marine, pump and valve, heavy machinery, bearing and flow-control applications.
Chemical Composition
The historical DIN 1714 composition specifies Cu 76.0% min.; Al 8.5-11.0%; Fe 3.5-5.5%; and Ni 4.0-6.5%. Maximum limits are Mn 3.0%; Zn 0.50%; Sn 0.20%; Si 0.10%; Pb and Mg 0.05%. Total other elements are controlled to 0.80% max.
Mechanical Properties by Casting Process
Former DIN 1714 minimum references are Rm 600 MPa, Rp0.2 270 MPa, A 12% and 140 HBW for sand casting; 600 MPa, 300 MPa, 14% and 150 HBW for permanent mould casting; 700 MPa, 300 MPa, 13% and 160 HBW for centrifugal casting; and 700 MPa, 300 MPa, 13% and 160 HBW for continuous casting. Casting process, section size, thermal history and sampling position are considered together when assessing the finished component.
Modern EN 1982 Comparison
The modern EN comparison for CuAl10Ni is CuAl10Fe5Ni5-C / CC333G. CC333G contains Cu 76.0-83.0%, Al 8.5-10.5%, Fe 4.0-5.5% and Ni 4.0-6.0%. Modern EN minimums are 600/250/13/140 for sand casting, 650/280/7/150 for permanent mould casting, and 650/280/13/150 for both centrifugal and continuous casting. The sequence is Rm MPa, Rp0.2 MPa, elongation percent and HBW hardness.
Typical Physical Properties
Typical engineering references for CuAl10Ni and closely related nickel aluminium bronzes include density around 7.6 g/cm³, modulus of elasticity around 110-115 GPa, thermal conductivity around 36-40 W/(m·K) and thermal expansion around 15-16 × 10⁻⁶/K. Purchase specifications establish the applicable acceptance values.
Technical Characteristics and Material Selection
CuAl10Ni combines high strength, good fatigue behaviour, cavitation resistance and corrosion resistance in seawater environments. Nickel and iron support structural stability, while aluminium contributes to formation of a protective surface oxide.
Material selection considers operating temperature, flow velocity, medium chemistry, galvanic pairing, surface pressure, sliding speed, lubrication, shaft hardness and casting process. The purchase standard, analysis certificate and mechanical acceptance criteria are stated in the drawing or procurement specification.
Applications
Typical applications include ship propellers and marine propulsion components, seawater pumps, valve bodies and trim, heavy-duty bushings and bearings, gears and worm wheels, hydraulic-equipment parts, guides and wear plates, offshore equipment, chemical and process-plant components, and machine parts exposed to cavitation.
Production Technology and Product Forms
KUPRAL® CuAl10Ni may be produced by sand, permanent mould, centrifugal and continuous casting. Component geometry, section, production quantity, mechanical targets and service conditions guide process selection.
Supply forms include hollow bronze products, round bars, flats, plates, bushing blanks, rings and project-specific cast components manufactured to drawing.
Production, Sales and Supply from Çorum Bronz
Çorum Bronz produces CuAl10Ni castings according to project requirements and supplies semi-finished products in standard or available dimensions through its Metal Market. Cut lengths, hollow products, round bars, flats, plates and custom-sized castings are evaluated according to the technical requirement.
Standards and Comparable Grades
The principal historical designations are the G, GK, GZ and GC-CuAl10Ni grades under DIN 1714. CuAl10Fe5Ni5-C / CC333G is the modern EN comparison, BS 1400 AB2 is a former British comparison and UNS C95800 is the preferred US comparison. UNS C95500 is another nickel aluminium bronze found in some cross-reference tables with different composition and property limits.
ASTM B148 covers sand castings, ASTM B271/B271M centrifugal castings and ASTM B505/B505M continuous-cast copper-alloy products. ISO 1338:1977 is a historical withdrawn standard. Composition, mechanical requirements, product form and the applicable edition are assessed for each comparison.
