What Is CuAl9Ni?
CuAl9Ni is a historical nickel aluminium bronze designation used in the former DIN 1714 family. Its current EN 1982 casting designation is CuAl10Ni3Fe2-C / CC332G, supplied by Çorum Bronz as KUPRAL® 7.
Chemical Composition
CC332G castings contain Cu 80.0-86.0%, Al 8.5-10.5%, Fe 1.0-3.0% and Ni 1.5-4.0%. Maximum limits are Mn 2.0%, Si and Sn 0.20%, Pb 0.10%, Zn 0.50% and Mg 0.05%.
For seawater applications, aluminium shall satisfy Al % < (8.2 + 0.5 × Ni %). Maximum copper may be 88.5% for permanent-mould castings. Maximum lead is 0.03% for castings intended to be welded.
Mechanical Properties by Casting Process
EN 1982 minimums for sand casting are Rm 500 MPa, Rp0.2 180 MPa, elongation 18% and hardness 100 HBW. Permanent-mould values are 600 MPa, 250 MPa, 20% and 130 HBW; centrifugal and continuous casting values are 550 MPa, 220 MPa, 20% and 120 HBW.
Mechanical results in the final component may vary with section thickness, casting structure, sample location and manufacturing conditions. Conformity is assessed against the order requirements and test certificate.
Typical Physical Properties
Typical references include density of approximately 7.5 g/cm³, elastic modulus around 120 GPa and electrical conductivity around 5 MS/m. These are engineering references rather than EN 1982 acceptance criteria.
Technical Characteristics
The aluminium-rich protective surface film supports corrosion resistance, while nickel and iron contribute to strength, microstructural stability, wear and cavitation behaviour. The alloy may be considered for cold and warm seawater, selected saline solutions, certain brines and some non-oxidising acids.
For plain bearings and bushes, load, sliding speed, surface finish, counterface material and lubrication are assessed together.
Applications
Applications include seawater pumps and impellers, marine propellers, shaft and rudder-system components, flanges, valve components, heat-exchanger parts, seawater piping equipment, lubricated plain bearings, gears, pickling equipment and suitable construction parts for food machinery.
Manufacturing and Supply Forms
CuAl10Ni3Fe2-C / CC332G can be produced by sand, permanent-mould, centrifugal and continuous casting. Supply forms include hollow sections, round bars, bushes, rings, special castings and machined components to drawing.
Standards and Historical Designations
The principal European casting designation is CuAl10Ni3Fe2-C / CC332G; the related ingot is CuAl10Ni3Fe2-B / CB332G. Former DIN designations are G-CuAl9Ni / 2.0970.01, GK-CuAl9Ni / 2.0970.02 and GZ-CuAl9Ni / 2.0970.03. G-NiAlBz F50 is a historical designation.
No verified exact old BS 1400, JIS or American UNS grade is used for CC332G. ASTM B148, B271/B271M and B505/B505M are product standards and do not by themselves establish alloy equivalence.
Engineering and Quality Note
Final material selection considers the current standard, casting process, dimensions, chemical analysis, mechanical tests, service environment and project specification together. Marine, pressure-equipment and safety-critical duties may require additional class or customer requirements.
